We’re honored to be featured in Healthcare Design Magazine (July 28, 2025) for our work on the Sankofa Village Wellness Center in Chicago’s West Garfield Park. The article highlights how the 51,400‑square‑foot center, anchored by a $30 million investment, is designed to combat long‑standing health and economic disparities in the community.
“Our team’s approach involved a forward‑thinking, deliberate and impactful 24‑month engagement and planning phase with community members… We identified several key insights including a need to address the stark 20‑year life‑expectancy gap in West Garfield Park compared to the Chicago Loop…”

Design + Human Impact
At Moody Nolan, we believe architecture should reflect—and uplift—the communities it serves. With Sankofa, our design responds not just to clinical needs but to the social determinants of health. The “walkable wellness village” concept connects the Madison/Pulaski corridor with local community anchors and supports holistic well‑being: access to care, jobs, healthy food, and cultural identity. The exterior mural, sustainable rooftop, and flexible gym environment embody the spirit of Sankofa—a Ghanaian concept about looking back to build forward.
