The Martin Luther King Branch of the Milwaukee Public Library is more than a place to borrow books, it is a civic anchor in a mixed use residential development.
Through every material choice and design gesture, the design signals that this community’s story matters and that its future is worth investing in.
The design reflects a library reimagined for how people actually use public space today. The interior is organized around distinct zones: quiet study, collaborative work, creative making, and children’s programming, each with its own character while remaining part of a coherent whole.
The building’s exterior makes a statement at the street. A sculptural canopy formed by bold, intersecting steel member, marks the entry as a civic threshold.
