As a nexus for health and well-being, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center unifies fitness and recreational services under one roof.
Planned as main wellness, recreational, intramural, and club sport facility on campus facility, the state of the art facility is a long term investment in recruitment and retention of student athletes.
Boasting several gymnasiums and multi-activity courts, a turf arena, an indoor running track, strength and fitness studios, classroom spaces, social spaces, and a natatorium, the facility offers Spartans a diverse range of options for physical activity and establishes community belonging.
Poised as the premier campus destination for student activity, the expansive Recreation and Wellness Center will become a defining feature of MSU’s eastern edge, seamlessly integrating along the main campus thoroughfare. With each façade designed to maintain visual openness and engagement with its immediate surroundings, the Center reaches outward in all directions – toward student housing, the campus arboretum, recreation fields, and the broader East Lansing community.
Informed by thorough energy modeling, site analysis, and material studies, the Center demonstrates how large-scale campus facilities can benefit both people and reduce environmental impact. High-performance design strategies combined with innovative material selections aim to reduce energy loads, conserve water, minimize carbon emissions, and utilize passive design techniques.
