How the Brand-New CEO of Central Ohio’s Busiest Architectural Firm is Leading During Covid-19

Jonathan Moody sat down with Columbus Business First’s Reporter, Tristan Nivara, to discuss the effect of COVID-19 on the firm and the industry. Moody reflected on the fact the firm was built during the Great Recession which has helped weather any longer-term construction downturn. Good business decisions are good decisions, no matter the timing, Moody said.

As far as the construction industry is concerned – about 80% of projects continue to proceed as normal, Moody say. Many large construction projects have a multi-year schedule so a six- or eight-week delay isn’t a big deal. But a growing number of developments have some kind of drawbacks or mounting issues, and Covid-19 has been a “last straw” for some, he said.

The late summer will likely be a reckoning for projects that had already been financially precarious. But the core demand is still there, especially in cities like Columbus where years of population growth aren’t slowing.
