Unlike most academic research buildings, the Pelotonia Research Center welcomes the community inside with a science on display space, open to all. The public space creates intentional collisions between public and private groups, sparking cross-disciplinary ideation.
The five-story, 305,000-square-foot laboratory building is equipped technology and resources needed for researchers to work across disciplines to accelerate new discoveries.
Universal Benches
Business start-ups or Fortune 500 companies can utilize the space to generate new ways of thinking, as part of the scientific community at OSU. The lab benches are universally flexible and can be modified to meet the needs of any research team. Equipped with appropriate gas and HVAC systems, the labs accommodate diverse research needs—from chemistry to engineering— all on the same bench.
A Lower Footprint
To meet the university’s sustainability and energy conservation benchmarks, the building lowers its embodied carbon impact through reducing the amount of concrete used while still supporting vibration sensitive equipment. The building utilizes chilled beams to reduce the project EUI, a projected 13.5% energy savings from the ASHRAE baseline model.
