Our Process
This state-of-the-art facility was designed to maximize both student wellness and environmental responsiveness. The student wellness focus of this facility was organized around the dimensions of wellness – physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and occupational. The environmental responsiveness was based on best practices for sustainability for this particular project location such as geothermal systems, solar tubes / day lighting, E-W building orientation, high performance glass, low VOC building materials, etc. A sophisticated transparent wall of shaded south glass broadcasts the activity within the recreation center and affords campus /plaza views from within to maximize campus connectivity. The north face of the building is responsive to the character and scale of the adjacent neighborhood. The feel of interior was designed to be visually open, filled with controlled daylight, and inviting / comfortable to all users.
