The new community center hosts an aerobics studio, strength and cardio equipment, spin room, child watch, teen center, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor track, basketball, and futsal courts. The project was designed as a focal point for the city and seeks to be a showcase for future YMCAs and community centers.
The facility was designed to house fitness programs, sports leagues, indoor and outdoor aquatic programs, day camps, and several youth programs for all ages. In addition, the facility also houses a primary care center that synergizes with the project focus on community health and wellness. The overall program and design provide a holistic approach to community health, social engagement, and youth development as well as programs for the senior community.
One of the challenges presented by the project was the need to have a flexible but compatible design for an approximate 13,500 square feet of partner space that was being planned in conjunction with but operated separately from the community center. The client contracted with OhioHealth to provide outpatient services; a perfect scenario for all. Featuring a dedicated entry, the clinic provides primary care with 18 rooms, outpatient lab services, pulmonology and urology.
