With more than 25 years of leadership in the architecture, engineering, and construction, Garfield brings a deep passion for diversity and inclusion to his work. A retired US Air Force Reserves Lieutenant Colonel, Garfield applies his expertise overseeing military facility design and construction to his day to day work.

Garfield advocates for effective and sustainable development practices, using a “systems thinking” framework to integrate innovation in sustainability and urban design. Through his leadership, he seeks to create fully integrated, healthy and sustainable communities not only for the Atlanta metropolitan region, but throughout the country.

He is passionate about youth and education advocacy, spending 20 years organizing professional and educational organizations for inner-city communities. A proven leader in the Atlanta design community, he is one of the founding members of the The Atlanta Center for Creative Inquiry, Inc. (ACCI), Now SPIKE Studio, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exposure of minority high school youth to architecture. He serves as the Georgia representative for the AIA Strategic Council, a diverse group of over 60 forward-thinking leaders, charged with exploring new ideas and solutions to significant issues facing the profession of architecture and its role in society.

Garfield received his MBA in Sustainable Business & Green Development from Marylhurst University, and he is a proud Alum of Howard University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s in Architecture.
