Reflections from our CEO, Jonathan Moody
I pray that all is well with you in this season of gratitude.
Three years ago, I wrote about the unprecedented year of growth and achievement after receiving the AIA Firm of the Year Award—one of my dad’s proudest moments. This year’s events eclipsed the word “unprecedented” in ways still rippling into the world.
On October 13th, surrounded by loved ones, my father, Curtis Moody Sr, passed away peacefully. The outpouring of love and support worldwide has been moving and profound. My dad built an amazing firm full of people who, like him, continue to persevere through what seems impossible.
As I reflect on all that has changed this year, many things remain the same:
Our unwavering legacy. The firm we are today—that started with two people and a dream—is more than we could have hoped for. We’ve seen 42 years of breakthroughs, reaching the profession’s highest heights to prove that anything is possible.
Our mission is to improve lives through design—the cornerstone of our work in every community and for every project. We’ll continue to bring high-quality design to people who need it most because we believe design has the power to uplift an entire community.
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion. While much progress has been made, the work still lies ahead. Our firm is driven by the belief that there is enough room at the table for everyone. And we’ll keep making room by championing the next generation of minority and women architects.
Our dedication to you. We’ve been quietly preparing ourselves for a time such as this for nearly eight months. It was unexpected, but one of my father’s greatest gifts may have been how he prepared us for the future. We have 350 staff and 33 senior leaders across 12 offices— each committed to maintaining excellence in our work and communities. Five years ago, I took over as CEO while my father transitioned to Chairman of the Board. We created an executive leadership team to enable excellence across every discipline of the firm. Since then, we’ve surpassed goals, reimagined who we are, and set our eyes on new heights.
I consistently recall my father’s words from the stage at the 2022 NOMA Conference. When asked what his favorite project is, he said, “the next one.” He paved the way for over 40 years, demonstrating what casting a tenacious vision into the future looks like.
You are a part of the story and legacy my father gifted us to carry forward. In this season of gratitude, we’re grateful for you and praying for your continued success now and beyond.
As we close 2024, we look forward to “the next one,” with you.
